Enrichment
We have a variety of extra-curricular clubs and many opportunities for pupil leadership such as the School Council, Rights Champions, Art Ambassadors, Sports Crew and Eco Committee. Here are a few of the activities that we take part in.
Rights Respecting School
We are a Gold Unicef Rights Respecting School. This work is led by our Rights Champions who make sure that we put the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of everything we do to help every child develop their full potential. We learn about children’s rights and make sure that we put them into practice every day. For example:
Article 12
Every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously.
We take part in:
- School Council, Rights Champs, ECO Council
- Pupil interviews about learning
- Interviews for new staff
- Learning about democracy – school council and rights champs elections; Council Offices visit
- Supporting our community and charities eg through fundraising for Children in Need and Ukraine; collecting for the Foodbank
- Outright Campaign
- Watching Newsround to find out about current issues
Sports Club
We have a number of sports clubs that run after school. We also have links with some of the local clubs. Please see our “useful information” page for more details.
Young Voices
We take part in the Young Voices concert each year, performing at Manchester Arena with thousands of other children – it’s an amazing experience!
Eco Schools
The Eco-Schools programme helps us to learn more about different environmental issues. We learn about these as part of our curriculum and we also have a special week each year which is a whole school focus and celebration of what we have learned about the environment.
Children's University
The Children’s University helps us to develop new interests and acquire new skills both during and outside of the school day. We have a graduation ceremony for Year 4 pupils towards the end of the school year to celebrate our learning activities.
Forest School Association
All children take part in Forest School and other outdoor activities during the year. This includes activities such as shelter building, exploring the environment, using tools to make things and making fires and cooking on them.
Children's Shakespeare Festival
The Children's Shakespeare Festivals see participating Year 4 teachers and their pupils explore a Shakespeare play through compelling drama in the classroom, before bringing together up to 8 schools to perform on the New Vic stage, in Newcastle. This is an immersive and extremely exciting experience for all involved!
